Story Summary

Exiled Ashborne stepson Kael Blackthorn is framed by his half-brother Lucien for their elder brother’s murder and imprisoned for two years. Summoned home for his grandfather’s birthday, he finds his chambers changed, mount seized, and fiancée stolen—only to learn he is meant to be a blood-essence vessel for Lucien. On banquet night, Lucien rips out half the guardian dragon Asterion’s heart and frames Kael again; the family believes the lie. When the lost Black Dragon Judgement Seal awakens on Kael’s hand, he rises from Blackforge’s iron-cage arena, founds Blackbrand Company, and tames Nyx, a black dragon from the Valley of Fallen Dragons. Returning as a free knight, he dismantles every scheme; at the Dragonflame Judgement, he strips Lucien of his false king’s blood and forbidden magic. Rejecting the corrupt noble house, Kael builds a new order under Blackbrand: merit, oaths, protection of the people, and dragon-rider bonds above lineage, giving the cast-aside a chance to earn their names anew. He then rides Nyx north to begin his own era.
