After being single for 26 years, Song Qiqi, desperate to be with her long-time crush—a senior from her past—pressures the Matchmaking God (Yue Lao) with incessant prayers. Annoyed, Yue Lao follows the suggestion of the Red-String Boy and ties a red thread for her, but the Book of Fate (Yinyuan Book) accidentally explodes and falls to the mortal world. To retrieve the Book of Fate, Yue Lao and the Red-String Boy descend to the mortal realm, disguising themselves as the illegitimate son of the Chai Group. Through ancient texts, they learn that the Book of Fate will reside within a woman destined to have a romantic connection with Yue Lao, marked by a scar. Deciding to speed up the search, Yue Lao begins matchmaking—just as Song Qiqi comes to the company for a job interview. The sight of her infuriates Yue Lao, especially after she accidentally pulls his pants down in public, humiliating him. The eldest son of the Chai family, misunderstanding Yue Lao’s intentions and fearing a threat to his inheritance, arranges a car accident to eliminate him. With his divine powers weakened in the mortal world, Yue Lao is saved by Song Qiqi, who displays extraordinary strength. Suspicious of her, Yue Lao brings her into the company for observation. As Yue Lao faces hostility from the Chai heir and Song Qiqi is betrayed by her best friend, the two work together to resolve a crisis at the Chai patriarch’s birthday banquet. During this time, Yue Lao discovers that he and Song Qiqi are connected by a red thread—but to retrieve the Book of Fate, she must willingly give it to him. He has no choice but to treat her with sincerity. Through their interactions, Yue Lao gradually sees Song Qiqi’s kindness and begins to care for her, even breaking his own rules to use magic to protect her. With Yue Lao’s help, Song Qiqi undergoes surgery to remove her scar, but the flawless procedure makes her suspicious of his true identity. To confirm her doubts, she accidentally walks into a trap set by the Chai heir. Just as Yue Lao prepares to return to heaven, he realizes Song Qiqi is in danger and rushes to save her. Unable to reveal himself, he lends his powers to Song Qiqi, allowing her to defeat the villain. After the antagonist is captured, Song Qiqi confesses her feelings, unwilling to part with him. Yue Lao decides to stay in the mortal world and spend this lifetime with her.
