Retired food safety inspector Lin Yan is sent to a shabby nursing home by her spineless son Luo Ping’an and his greedy wife Xu Man. Xu Man strikes a secret deal with Su Yanhong, the director of the nursing home, using the supply rights of her homemade pre-made dishes as leverage. In exchange, Lin Yan’s accommodation fees are waived. This lets her get rid of her mother-in-law, who she sees as a burden, while cutting household costs. On the very day she checks in, Lin Yan witnesses an elderly resident suffer an acute case of food poisoning. Drawing on decades of professional experience, she forces an inspection of the kitchen. She finds the cooking area filthy and unsanitary, and the pre-made meals served there bear no national food safety labels—many are moldy and spoiled. Digging deeper, Lin Yan is horrified to learn the supplier behind these toxic pre-made dishes is none other than her own son and daughter-in-law. For a long time, Xu Man has processed pre-made dishes using rotten, moldy vegetables. To cover up her illegal operation, she even forged official food safety test reports, completely disregarding the lives and health of the elderly diners. Lin Yan repeatedly orders the couple to shut down the workshop and compensate the poisoned seniors. Xu Man pretends to comply, yet secretly resells the tainted pre-made meals to other nursing homes. She even files a false report against Lin Yan, who has been buying fresh ingredients out of her own pocket for the nursing home elders. Crushed by utter disappointment, Lin Yan stops using her pension to pay off their mortgage, cutting off their financial safety net. Cornered with no way out, Xu Man shows no remorse. She tears down official closure seals and reopens the workshop. This time, she fills potato starch counterfeit health supplements. Under the guise of free public health lectures, she lures seniors with free eggs and noodles to buy her fake products at inflated prices, scamming nearly 200,000 yuan in just a few days. Upon learning the truth, Lin Yan visits the workshop to demand full refunds and the destruction of all counterfeit goods. Instead, Xu Man knocks her unconscious and locks her inside the illegal factory. When Lin Yan regains consciousness, she makes a terrifying discovery: a bag of rat poison has accidentally mixed into the potato starch used for the fake supplements. If these products hit the market, they will definitely lead to fatalities. At this critical moment, Zheng Zhi, a retired lawyer, notices something suspicious and follows the clues to rescue Lin Yan. The two rush to the sales venue, where Xu Man swallows one of the capsules in public to prove her products are harmless. She ends up collapsing and dying from rat poison poisoning. Lin Yan burns all the harmful counterfeit supplements to ashes. This tragic ending stands as a stark lesson: anyone who profits through unscrupulous, illegal means will eventually suffer the bitter consequences of their own crimes.
