Cedric, a captain with Nantian Airlines, and Faye, a flight attendant, had been secretly married for three years. On Christmas Day 2019, Cedric asked Faye for a divorce at the airport, claiming he wanted to provide a complete family for his ex-girlfriend Jade and her four-year-old son, Cody. On Christmas Eve, during a family dinner at Cedric’s home, Jade made a surprise appearance. Cedric’s family pressured Faye to divorce, accusing her of failing to bear children after three years of marriage and neglecting the family—yet they made no mention of the fact that Faye was unable to conceive because Cedric had insisted she undergo a tubal ligation before their marriage. The day after Christmas, while flying a route to Rome, the couple’s flight was suddenly hit by a cargo hold fire. Faye returned to the cargo hold to investigate the source of the fire but became trapped by thick smoke; Cedric risked his life to rescue her. However, Cedric then publicly lied in front of the crew, claiming that Jade was his wife—whom he had secretly married three years prior—and that Cody was his biological son. Heartbroken, Faye signed the divorce agreement. To completely eliminate Faye, Jade exploited Faye’s mother, who suffers from severe mental illness. First, she took her out of the psychiatric hospital and caused a scene at the airport. Then, in conjunction with the malicious leak of intimate photos of Faye and Cedric, she slandered Faye, accusing her of seducing the captain, which led to Faye’s ruin and forced resignation. Later, she brought Faye’s mother to find Faye again and incited her to stab Faye in the heart with a knife. Faye was critically injured and in need of an urgent heart transplant. It was only then that Cedric realized he had long been deeply in love with Faye. At the same time, he discovered that Victoria had prepared euthanasia medication for Faye, falsely claiming it was a fake death potion that would allow her to flee to a distant land. To prevent Cedric from uncovering the truth and finding Faye, Jade deliberately ran him over with her car. She then collaborated with a psychiatrist to hypnotize him, erasing all his memories of Faye and leaving him with only the belief that he and Jade were married. Cedric’s family, in an effort to carry on the family line (the men in the Cedric family suffer from hereditary asthenozoospermia, and Cody is the only child Victoria had forced Jade to bear in secret years ago), all colluded in this deception. Six months later, Faye recovered from her heart transplant and returned home with Ethan, the co-pilot who had been caring for her. She ran into the amnesiac Cedric, who felt an inexplicable sense of familiarity and a flutter in his heart toward Faye, prompting him to secretly investigate his past. In the apartment they had once shared—which Faye was preparing to sell—he found their divorce papers, wedding rings, and traces of their life together. He also discovered that Jade had been administering neuro-suppressive drugs to him for a long time, gradually uncovering the full truth behind the hypnotic amnesia and the conspiracy between Jade and Victoria to harm him. Cedric confronted Jade and demanded a divorce, exposing his family’s conspiracy once and for all. Meanwhile, Faye confessed to Ethan that she was unable to have children, not wanting to hold him back as an only child. They agreed to a one-year truce: they would have no contact for a year, and if Ethan’s feelings remained unchanged, they would start over. Faye then left the country again. At the story’s conclusion, Cedric purchased the apartment he once shared with Faye. Fighting off headaches, he slowly regained his memories of her, determined to seek her forgiveness once he remembered everything; Ethan, meanwhile, kept their promise and waited for Faye’s return.
